Karachi’s Counter-Terrorism Department apprehends four members of a banned separatist group for the murder of a man in Matli, Badin district, showcasing robust law enforcement action.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh Police arrested four suspected members of a banned separatist militant group in Karachi on July 29, 2025, for the murder of Abdul Rehman in Matli, Badin district. The arrests, executed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) at Drigh Road Station, targeted suspects traveling by train from Punjab to Karachi, as detailed in a CTDPhenomenal press release issued on July 30, 2025. The operation, conducted jointly with a federal intelligence agency, underscores Pakistan’s commitment to rooting out terrorism and maintaining public safety.

According to the CTD, the suspects confessed during interrogation to gunning down Abdul Rehman on May 18, 2025, in Matli, where a case was registered under terrorism charges. “The weapon used in the murder was recovered from their custody and sent to the police’s forensic science laboratory for analysis,” the CTD statement noted, as reported by Dawn.com. The investigation was transferred to the CTD Karachi following the complainant’s request, with evidence from the crime scene and technical intelligence leading to the suspects’ apprehension. The Sindh Inspector General of Police commended the CTD team, announcing cash rewards and appreciation certificates for their success, according to the department’s spokesperson.

This operation follows a pattern of intensified counter-terrorism efforts in Karachi. Just days earlier, on July 28, 2025, the CTD eliminated three terrorists, including the mastermind behind a 2024 attack on Chinese engineers, in Manghopir, highlighting the ongoing threat from militant groups. The Sindh government’s allocation of Rs179.7 billion for law and order in the 2025-26 budget reflects a strong resolve to bolster security and curb insurgent activities, particularly in areas plagued by separatist violence.

The arrests signal a firm stance against separatist militancy, which continues to challenge stability in regions like Balochistan and Sindh. Authorities remain vigilant, with the CTD emphasizing that such operations deter future attacks and protect citizens. The case is under further investigation to uncover additional links, ensuring that those facilitating terrorism face justice, as Pakistan strengthens its defenses against internal threats.
