Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirms Pakistan-China strategic partnership, emphasizing its role in regional stability at the People’s Liberation Army’s 98th anniversary event.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military), declared the enduring partnership between the Pakistan Army and China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) as a cornerstone for regional stability during a ceremony at General Headquarters (GHQ) on August 1, 2025. The event, marking the PLA’s 98th founding anniversary, highlighted the unshakeable Pakistan-China friendship amid global challenges, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Addressing the gathering, Munir praised the PLA’s pivotal role in China’s defense and national development, emphasizing that the Pakistan-China relationship, rooted in mutual trust and shared goals, remains resilient despite shifting global dynamics. He described the two armies as “true brothers-in-arms,” committed to safeguarding strategic interests, per a statement reported by Dawn. The ceremony, attended by Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, Defense Attaché Major General Wang Zhong, and senior Pakistani military officers, underscored the deep military ties.

Chinese Ambassador Jiang, cited by The Nation, expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s hospitality and lauded the Pakistan Armed Forces’ efforts against terrorism, reaffirming China’s unwavering support. The event highlighted ongoing cooperation under initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which Munir noted as vital for regional connectivity and economic growth, per Daily Times. The ISPR statement emphasized that both nations share a commitment to countering transnational threats, including terrorism, which has targeted Chinese projects in Pakistan.

Security analyst Talat Hussain, quoted by Geo News, noted that the Pakistan-China alliance serves as a stabilizing force in South Asia, particularly amid tensions with neighboring countries. Munir’s recent visit to Beijing, where he met Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, further solidified commitments to joint counterterrorism and defense modernization, according to ARY News. The Chinese leadership praised Pakistan’s role in promoting peace, per The Express Tribune.

This reaffirmed partnership signals Pakistan’s strategic alignment with China, ensuring robust military and economic collaboration.
