On August 7, 2025, foreign media reported that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is set to visit the United States for the second time in less than two months, signaling strengthened military ties between Islamabad and Washington. The primary purpose of the visit, according to Dawn, is to attend the retirement ceremony of General Michael Erik Kurilla, commander of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), who was recently honored with Pakistan’s Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) award by President Asif Ali Zardari on July 26. No official statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistan military’s media wing, has confirmed additional engagements during the trip.

Munir’s previous visit in June 2025 included a notable two-hour meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other officials, as reported by The Express Tribune. The discussions covered counter-terrorism, trade, and emerging sectors like energy and minerals. The meeting, attended by Pakistan’s national security adviser and Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik, led to a significant trade agreement, finalized during Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb’s talks with U.S. commerce officials, per Geo.tv.
