On August 8, 2025, a joint intelligence-based operation by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police and Pakistan’s security forces in Bannu district resulted in the arrest of 14 individuals suspected of facilitating terrorist activities. Three militant hideouts were also demolished during the operation, which targeted networks linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The operation began at 5 a.m. and was directed by Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sajjad Khan, with District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Abbas Kalachi overseeing the field actions. Security forces moved into the Hoveed and Wazirabad areas after receiving intelligence reports about the presence of militants and their facilitators. According to police officials, the joint teams surrounded the targeted zones, sealing entry and exit points to prevent escapes.

Five suspected locations along the Tuchi River were searched in detail. Authorities reported seizing three vehicles, including two motorcycles and a rickshaw, which were allegedly used in support of militant activities. A curfew was imposed in the operation zones to ensure public safety and to allow security personnel to move without interference.

During the operation, house-to-house searches were carried out, and joint patrols were conducted in Hoveed Bazaar to maintain a visible security presence. Police officials urged residents to report any suspicious movement or activities in the area, warning that aiding or sheltering militants is a criminal offense that carries serious legal consequences.

This operation comes in response to a rise in militant incidents in Bannu and other areas of K-P. In July 2025, a quadcopter attack targeted a Bannu police station, marking the fifth such incident in a single month. Authorities believe these attacks were part of a broader strategy by militant groups to destabilize the region and challenge state authority.

Security analysts note that Bannu has been a sensitive district due to its proximity to tribal areas and the Afghanistan border, making it strategically significant for militant movements. The latest operation, according to local police, is part of a series of coordinated efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore stability.

Officials stated that the 14 suspects are under investigation, and further actions will depend on the evidence gathered. The cleared hideouts will no longer be accessible for militant use, and security patrols in the region will remain active in the coming weeks.
