Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, addressed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) during an open debate on the Middle East, calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza to halt the ongoing conflict and alleviate the humanitarian crisis.

Dar condemned the dire situation in Gaza, describing it as a grave humanitarian disaster resulting in the loss of tens of thousands of lives, including many women and children. He emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian access to ensure aid delivery and prevent further famine and suffering. While exact casualty figures vary, Dar highlighted the severity of the crisis, underscoring Pakistan’s longstanding support for the Palestinian people and its advocacy for a two-state solution based on international law.

He also called attention to the ongoing forced displacement and illegal settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, urging the international community to uphold justice and respect for sovereignty. Dar criticized the UNSC’s historical inability to enforce resolutions effectively, stating that this has undermined the council’s credibility in managing global conflicts.

Furthermore, he appealed for strengthened support for aid agencies such as the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which provides essential services to millions of Palestinian refugees. Dar underscored the importance of protecting humanitarian workers and ensuring unhindered access to affected areas.

In addition to Gaza, Dar addressed broader regional concerns, including support for Syria’s inclusive political process and the call for Israel’s withdrawal from occupied territories such as the Golan Heights, in line with relevant UN resolutions.

Pakistan’s role in chairing the UNSC session reflects its diplomatic engagement and growing influence in international forums. Dar’s statements reaffirm Pakistan’s consistent foreign policy position advocating for peace, justice, and the resolution of the Palestinian issue through dialogue and respect for international law.
