Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, addressed the United Nations Security Council in New York, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to global peace, development, and human rights through multilateral cooperation. He underscored Pakistan’s active engagement across various UN bodies, including the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and announced a forthcoming joint UNSC briefing with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation scheduled for July 24. Dar also highlighted Pakistan’s candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council (2026–2028) and its contributions to climate action and sustainable development initiatives. Despite these efforts, he expressed frustration over the UNSC’s failure to act decisively on pressing crises, particularly condemning the humanitarian situation in Gaza and ongoing tensions in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a related address at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad on June 30, Dar criticized India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, warning that any disruption of Pakistan’s water rights would be regarded as a serious threat to regional stability. He further emphasized Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, citing over 80,000 lives lost, and called for international recognition of these efforts. Dar reiterated that Pakistan’s foreign policy prioritizes geo-economic cooperation and regional peace, while urging the global community to support a just resolution to conflicts affecting Pakistan’s security and sovereignty.

Dar’s statements also called for the United Nations to go beyond rhetorical commitments and enforce accountability in line with international law. He urged the UNSC to uphold resolutions concerning the protection of Palestinians and Kashmiris, including ending illegal settlements and occupation. Highlighting the need for inclusive dialogue and stronger international support, Dar cautioned that without concrete actions, Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives might fall short, risking the persistence of global instability and injustice.
