Al Jazeera Report Raises Alarm on Israel-India Alliance Exploiting Baloch Separatists

On July 25, 2025, an article published by Al Jazeera raised allegations of a covert nexus between Israel and India aimed at manipulating Baloch separatist movements to destabilize Pakistan and counter Iranian influence in the region. The report focused on the controversial Balochistan Study Project (BSP), which is linked to the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), a think tank with known connections to Israeli intelligence. The article suggested that this initiative attempts to co-opt the Baloch nationalist struggle for geopolitical advantage.

MEMRI’s founder, Colonel Yigal Carmon, a former Israeli Military Intelligence officer, is noted for advocating pro-Israel perspectives. The BSP prominently features Mir Yar Baloch, described in the report as a Baloch scholar whose prominence is largely derived from Indian media platforms. The article cited Mir Yar Baloch’s social media activity from May 2025, including statements supporting Balochistan’s independence and expressing political support for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi following Operation Sindoor. These claims were contested by other Baloch groups, which dismissed his influence as inauthentic and influenced by foreign agendas.

The report highlighted India’s strategic partnership with Israel, a significant arms supplier, as a factor fueling concerns about coordinated efforts to exploit Balochistan’s rich natural resources, including oil, gas, uranium, and strategic ports such as Gwadar and Chabahar. MEMRI’s narrative framed Balochistan as a strategic “outpost” to curtail Iran’s nuclear ambitions and its regional alliances, a perspective criticized by Al Jazeera as having a colonial undertone.

Pakistan’s security concerns are compounded by the province’s porous border with Iran, where separatist groups such as the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), designated as a terrorist organization by both Pakistan and the United States, remain active. Analysts have warned that escalating tensions between Iran and Israel could lead to increased militant activities in the border region, raising further challenges for Pakistan’s internal security.

The article referenced Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions, citing Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s advocacy for dialogue and de-escalation in Iran-Israel conflicts. Nonetheless, claims of foreign involvement in Balochistan have been reiterated by Pakistani military officials, including Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, who alleged Indian sponsorship of attacks carried out by separatist groups.

These developments underscore Pakistan’s precarious security environment, where the government must balance diplomatic engagement with vigilant defense measures to protect its sovereignty. The evolving geopolitical dynamics in South Asia and the Middle East continue to present complex challenges requiring careful navigation by Pakistani policymakers.
