The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has increased the compensation package for families of martyred police officers to Rs11 million and raised the recruitment quota for their kin from 5% to 12.5%, honoring their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

In a significant move to support the families of fallen heroes, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has enhanced the financial and employment benefits for the kin of martyred police officers. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed announced that the compensation package for police martyrs has been raised to Rs11 million, a substantial increase aimed at providing meaningful support to grieving families. Additionally, the recruitment quota for martyrs’ families in the police force has been expanded from 5% to 12.5%, ensuring greater opportunities for their children to secure stable employment in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police.

The announcement came during the 11th annual Police Martyrs’ Day ceremony in Peshawar, where IGP Hameed addressed attendees, emphasizing the unparalleled sacrifices made by the K-P Police in combating terrorism. He highlighted the force’s role in restoring peace to a region long plagued by violence, stating that their courage has transformed “the dark night of terrorism into the light of a peaceful dawn.” The event, attended by Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, underscored the province’s commitment to honoring its fallen officers.

This policy shift reflects the government’s recognition of the K-P Police’s critical role as the frontline defense against terrorism. Official records indicate that over 2,000 officers have been martyred in the province over the past 25 years, with a sharp rise in fatalities since 2007. The increased compensation and quota aim to alleviate the financial and social burdens faced by martyrs’ families, ensuring they are not left to fend for themselves. Hameed reaffirmed the force’s dedication, noting that every officer remains committed to serving the nation, inspired by the bravery of their fallen colleagues.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government’s decision has been widely praised as a step toward valuing the sacrifices of its police force. By prioritizing tangible support, the province sets a strong example of standing by those who risk everything for public safety.
