General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, met Egyptian leaders during the third round of Defence and Security Talks in Cairo, reinforcing Pakistan-Egypt military cooperation to address regional security challenges.

On July 30, 2025, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), held high-level discussions in Cairo with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, General Abdel Mageed Ahmed Saqr, Minister of Defence and Military Production, and Admiral Osama Mounier Mohamed Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, as part of the third round of Pakistan-Egypt Defence and Security Talks, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The meetings, detailed by Pakistan Today, focused on expanding military-to-military ties through joint training, defence exercises, and counter-terrorism strategies. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, critical for securing Pakistan’s $350 billion economy and Egypt’s strategic position in the $400 billion Middle East market, per World Bank data.

General Mirza’s discussions with Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, emphasized interfaith harmony as a tool to combat extremism, a shared priority given Pakistan’s ongoing fight against terrorism and Egypt’s regional challenges, per The Express Tribune. Egyptian leaders praised the Pakistan Armed Forces’ professionalism and sacrifices, acknowledging their role in global counter-terrorism efforts, as noted in a Dunya News report. “Collaboration in training and exercises is vital for regional stability,” an ISPR spokesperson stated, highlighting the talks’ focus on practical cooperation. The ceremonial Guard of Honour presented to General Mirza at Egypt’s Ministry of Defence underscored the deepening trust between the two nations, per Minute Mirror.

The talks align with Pakistan’s broader defence diplomacy, exemplified by recent engagements with Saudi Arabia and Turkey, per Asian Defence Journal. Egypt’s strategic control over the Suez Canal, handling 12% of global trade, adds economic weight to the partnership, ensuring secure trade routes vital for Pakistan’s $5.2 billion exports to the US, per Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. As both countries face evolving security threats, this strengthened alliance fosters institutional cooperation, enhancing their ability to address regional instability without compromising sovereignty, positioning them as key players in a volatile geopolitical landscape.
