Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Pakistan Army, conducted a series of high-level meetings with senior United States political and military officials during his recent official visit to the US. This marked his second trip to the country within two months and included engagements with members of the Pakistani diaspora in Tampa, Florida.

During his visit, Munir attended the retirement ceremony of General Michael E. Kurilla, outgoing Commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), and the change of command ceremony for Admiral Brad Cooper, who assumed the role. Munir acknowledged Kurilla’s leadership and noted ongoing military cooperation between Pakistan and the US. He expressed hope for continued collaboration with Admiral Cooper to address shared security concerns. In addition, Munir met with General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to discuss mutual strategic interests and extended an invitation for General Caine to visit Pakistan.

Munir also held discussions with defense chiefs from allied countries, highlighting Pakistan’s involvement in multilateral military cooperation. Addressing the Pakistani diaspora in Tampa, he encouraged community members to remain hopeful about Pakistan’s future and to support efforts aimed at attracting foreign investment.

This visit followed Field Marshal Munir’s June 2025 trip to the US, during which he became the first serving Pakistani army chief to meet with US President Donald Trump at the White House. That meeting involved discussions on trade, energy, and security issues.

The recent engagements between Pakistani and US military officials occurred amid ongoing regional security challenges, including the aftermath of a four-day conflict with India in May 2025. Discussions focused on counterterrorism cooperation and regional stability. Both sides also explored possibilities for expanding trade and investment opportunities.

The visit underscored Pakistan’s strategic position in South Asia and reaffirmed the military’s role in supporting diplomatic efforts and enhancing bilateral relations with the United States. Official statements emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue and cooperation to address common security concerns.
