Pakistan’s Unyielding Battle Against Terrorism

Download IPFS

On July 27, 2025, Pakistan reaffirmed its firm commitment to combating terrorism, a struggle that has significantly shaped its national security landscape over the past two decades. The Pakistan Armed Forces continue to lead efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, with recent operations reflecting the nation’s unwavering resolve to protect its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its citizens from extremist threats.

Since the early 2000s, Pakistan has been a key participant in the global War on Terror, following the attacks on September 11, 2001. The Pakistan Armed Forces, supported by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), have carried out multiple operations against groups such as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant organizations. Major campaigns like Operation Zarb-e-Azb in 2014 and Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad in 2017 succeeded in weakening terrorist strongholds, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas. Despite these successes, the TTP’s resurgence, often linked to instability in Afghanistan, has presented renewed security challenges. In 2024, the government launched Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, combining military measures with socio-economic programs aimed at addressing extremism’s underlying causes.

Recent operations demonstrate Pakistan’s proactive security approach. In July 2025, intelligence-based operations were conducted in regions including Awaran, Quetta, Nushki, Malakand, Bajaur, Orakzai, and Waziristan, resulting in the elimination of 43 militants. Military officials highlighted the courage and precision of Special Services Group personnel in these actions. Additionally, a thwarted terrorist plot in Sindh involved the killing of two militants and the recovery of explosive devices, underscoring the ISI’s role in preventing attacks. While Pakistan accuses certain foreign entities of supporting terrorism within its borders, these claims remain contested internationally.

The toll of terrorism on Pakistan has been severe, with thousands of military personnel and civilians killed in attacks, including the tragic 2014 Army Public School massacre in Peshawar. Nevertheless, Pakistan’s determination remains steadfast. The Armed Forces, supported by national consensus, persist in targeting terrorist sanctuaries and advancing efforts to mitigate factors such as poverty and lack of education that contribute to extremism. Pakistan’s ongoing campaign against terrorism reflects its enduring strength and dedication to securing a peaceful future.
