Sindh Government Spokesperson Launches Sharp Critique Against MQM-P

On July 16, 2025, Sindh government spokesperson and provincial assembly member Sumeta Afzal Syed strongly criticized the Muttahida Qaumi Movement–Pakistan (MQM-P), accusing its legislators of making unfounded and biased allegations during heightened political tensions in Karachi.

Syed condemned MQM-P for interpreting administrative actions “through a lens of bias and misinformation” and urged them to engage in responsible and evidence-based politics, particularly regarding governance and resource management in urban Sindh. She specifically pointed to MQM-P’s statements concerning the transfer of staff from the Sehwan Development Authority to the Sindh Building Control Authority, describing such claims as partisan and divisive.

This verbal clash highlights long-standing political friction between the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and MQM-P, whose strength has diminished; in the 2024 Sindh elections, MQM-P secured a smaller share of seats compared to the PPP’s dominance.

Sindh authorities argue that MQM-P’s focus on civic issues such as water shortages and infrastructure deterioration in Karachi often lacks factual grounding. Syed and other PPP leaders contend that such rhetoric risks deepening urban-rural divides and undermining administrative legitimacy.
