Terrorist Attack in KP’s Bannu Claims FC Constable, Injures Two: Police

A Frontier Corps (FC) vehicle was ambushed by terrorists in the Daryoba area of Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), resulting in the death of one constable and injuries to two others. The incident highlights ongoing security challenges posed by militancy in the region.

According to Bannu Police Spokesperson Aamir Khan, as reported by Dawn, the attack involved two assailants on motorcycles who opened fire on the FC personnel. The security forces retaliated, injuring one attacker before the assailants fled, leaving behind a pistol and magazine. The wounded constables were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Security forces launched a search operation, cordoning off the area to pursue the attackers and collect evidence.

This attack follows a recent escalation of violence in Bannu. On July 23, six FC personnel were injured in a separate assault on a checkpoint in Takhti Khel, while Constable Hayatullah was killed returning from duty, according to Dawn. The resurgence of militancy is linked to the collapse of a ceasefire with Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in November 2022. Bannu has witnessed several militant attacks, including a quadcopter assault on Miryan police station and an attempted siege of Bakkakhel police station, as reported by The Patriot. The region’s proximity to Afghanistan’s unstable border facilitates these security threats.

Pakistan’s security forces continue counterterrorism operations such as Radd-ul-Fasaad, launched in 2017 to dismantle terrorist networks, per official sources. Despite progress, the recent attacks underline the ongoing risks faced by personnel on the frontlines. The loss of lives like that of the martyred constable, identified as Driver Hashim in verified reports, remains a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made in the fight against terrorism.
