A Pakistan Army Major and two soldiers were martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Mastung, Balochistan, with security forces eliminating four terrorists in response, says the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Three Pakistan Army soldiers, including Major Muhammad Rizwan Tahir, were martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Mastung district, Balochistan, on the night of August 5-6, 2025, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The attack, attributed to the Indian-backed group “Fitna al Hindustan,” targeted a security forces’ vehicle. The fallen soldiers were Major Tahir, 31, from Narowal; Naik Ibni Amin, 37, from Swabi; and Lance Naik Muhammad Younas, 33, from Karak. Major Tahir was lauded as a courageous officer who led numerous counter-terrorism operations, as per the ISPR statement reported by The Express Tribune. In a swift response, security forces conducted a sanitization operation, neutralizing four terrorists linked to the attack.

The ISPR emphasized Pakistan’s resolve to eradicate terrorism, stating that such sacrifices strengthen the nation’s commitment to security. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, calling the soldiers a “steel wall” protecting Pakistan and expressing condolences to their families, according to Business Recorder. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also denounced the attack, describing the martyrs as the nation’s pride and affirming solidarity with their families, as reported by Geo.tv. The incident follows a pattern of intensified militant activity in Balochistan, with 501 terror attacks reported in the province over the past six months, resulting in 257 deaths, per the Balochistan Home Department.

Public sentiment  reflects grief and admiration for the fallen soldiers, with users praising their sacrifice while urging stronger measures against terrorism. The ongoing operation in Mastung aims to eliminate remaining threats, with the ISPR vowing to continue efforts against external-sponsored militancy. The martyrdom of these soldiers underscores the persistent security challenges in Balochistan, where Pakistan’s forces remain vigilant despite heavy losses.
