Karachi police arrested two suspects linked to a Rs9.7 million cash van robbery in Korangi, recovering Rs3.47 million, weapons, and stolen items.

On August 2, 2025, Karachi police apprehended two suspects allegedly involved in a Rs9.7 million cash van heist in the Korangi Industrial Area, as reported by The Express Tribune. The robbery, which took place on July 31, 2025, near Godam Chowrangi, involved armed assailants targeting a private bank’s cash van and injuring two security guards, Mohammed Khalid and Sudhir Iqbal, before fleeing with the cash. Police recovered Rs3.47 million along with weapons and other stolen items from the suspects, both residents of Bilal Colony, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Korangi Mohammed Tariq Nawaz.

The suspects intercepted the van in a Toyota Corolla as it exited a bank branch. After wounding the guards, the attackers fled in the car, which was later abandoned due to an accident. They then hijacked a Suzuki Alto at gunpoint to continue their escape. SSP Investigation Mohammed Qais Khan stated that the Corolla is under investigation to determine if it was stolen.

Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar confirmed the looted amount and directed SSP Nawaz to utilize forensic methods to aid the ongoing investigation. The injured guards were treated at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and are reported to be in stable condition.

The arrests represent a breakthrough in addressing Karachi’s rising street crime. According to police, technical and forensic methods helped track the suspects, and further raids are ongoing to capture their accomplices.

This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in Karachi’s industrial areas. While the recovery of a portion of the stolen amount is a positive development, officials emphasize the need for improved security protocols for cash transportation to prevent similar attacks.
