Workers’ Federation Sounds Alarm Over Security Crisis in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan

The Pakistan United Workers Federation (PUWF), one of the nation’s most prominent labor groups, has voiced strong concern over the deteriorating security situation in key provinces, particularly Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and Balochistan. The Federation warned that the ongoing violence in these areas is severely impacting the working class, the backbone of the national economy.

In a joint statement issued by Provincial President Muhammad Iqbal and General Secretary Razam Khan, the PUWF highlighted the growing frequency of violent incidents in the aforementioned regions. These tragic events, they noted, are further fracturing public sentiment and deepening uncertainty about the root causes of the unrest. However, despite diverging perspectives, the union leaders called for collective national reflection and unity.

“This is the time to come together, to think deeply, to ensure the safety of our future generations, and to protect this country,” they urged. Their statement emphasized the necessity of creating a peaceful and stable environment for all citizens, regardless of political or ethnic affiliations.

The Federation took a firm stance on the federal government’s handling of the crisis, criticizing its failure to deliver lasting peace. According to Iqbal and Khan, the lack of security has prompted widespread business closures and capital flight. “Many factories have shut down in affected areas, and investors are relocating their businesses to other provinces or abroad,” they stated. This trend, they warned, places an outsized burden on laborers, who are the first to lose their livelihoods in times of instability.

The PUWF’s message underscores a key issue facing Pakistan today: an increasingly fragile economic landscape further strained by poor governance and internal conflict. With the working class facing job insecurity and shrinking opportunities, the country’s broader economic recovery becomes even more elusive.

As instability continues to plague the western provinces, the Federation has called on the state to take swift and decisive action. Their appeal is not just for peace, but for the preservation of industry and the protection of Pakistan’s workforce, an appeal that reflects the urgent need for leadership grounded in national interest, not political expediency.

If the current trajectory continues, Pakistan may see long-term damage to its industrial base and social fabric. The PUWF’s warning is a call that responsible leadership should not ignore.
